On the afternoon of March 10, the first meeting of the Wuhan University Student English Correspondent Group (SECG) in 2023 was held at the conference hall of the International Exchangeand Service Center. Gui Ling, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, Xi Bingqing, the group’s institutional advisor, and Sylvia Schroeder, an intercultural consultant, attended themeeting.

Gui Ling, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, first delivered a welcome speech to the SECG members, encouraging them to review their original intentions of joining this big familyand to utilize this platform to achieve their goals. He stated that the growth of the SECG would alsogive a strong boost to the international influence of Wuhan University (WHU).

Xi Bingqing, the group’s institutional advisor, pointed out that the SECG has always maintained a high level of operation and offered members various opportunities for training and self-improvement, including international exchange activities and regular training in language skills. She expressed her sincere wish that all members would gain knowledge, friendship and valuable experience through their participation in the SECG.

Sylvia Schroeder, an intercultural consultant, stressed that in the post-epidemic era, members of the SECG should leverage the rich resources and opportunities of international exchanges and intercultural communication. She also looked forward to the possibilities of conducting diversifiedteam-building activities, like workshops, in the coming semester.

Then, group leaders of the SECG summarized the work carried out during the second half of 2022. They shared reflection and suggestions for improvement and put forward ideas and expectations for the future work of their respective groups.

During the last part of this meeting, Sylvia and Xi Bingqing awarded honorary certificates toexcellent group leaders and members for their remarkable contributions. These certificates serve toencourage recipients to continue their outstanding work and act as a role model in the SECG.

The Wuhan University SECG was established in March 2014 and registered as a school-level association in 2019. Under the guidance of the Office of International Affairs and the Youth League Committee, the SECG maintains WHU’s English official website, promotes the public image of WHU and organizes overseas exchange activities through English news reporting, translation, and photography. In the future, the Wuhan University SECG will continue to advance internal operations and contribute to the process of building WHU into a world-class university.
